Looking to defend his belt, Joey Guerra steps in the cage this Saturday at Kick Down 107…

FIGHTFAN: Joe, for those that don’t know you, or aren’t familiar with you yet, why don’t you go ahead and tell us about yourself.
Joey Guerra: Okay, I’m from Lakewood, Colorado. My record is 3 and 2, all Professional bouts. I have a fight club called ‘Nomad Fight Club”, It’s me and a few of my friends. I coach and train out of 303 training center with Toni Basile and Vic Brabo. I also train out of west Colfax MMA in Lakewood. I kind of roam and do what I can to be the best martial artist I can be.
FIGHTFAN: Cool man. So you just jumped right in as a pro?
Joey Guerra: Yes sir. I fought as an amateur in 2003 in a Thai match.
FIGHTFAN: Wow, that’s been a while…So you have fought on the last 3 Kick Down shows, how do you like fighting for Steve?
Joey Guerra: Steve’s a great guy, he’s treated me well and he’s been around for a long time. I appreciate people from our state that are here to help the local fighters.
FIGHTFAN: So, who has been your toughest fight to date?
Joey Guerra: I would say…L.T. Smash Nelson.
FIGHTFAN: He won that fight via submission, didn’t he?
Joey Guerra: Yes he did…yes he did.
FIGHTFAN: I didn’t get a chance to catch up with you after your last fight. How did that fight go? How far did it differ from planned? Or did it?
Joey Guerra: Well, our game plan kinda went to a T. We knew he was probably going to be stronger than me, more powerful. So I was going to try to bait him down to the ground. I worked a lot of Jiu Jitsu and Sambo from my back to help me, and it went well. He’s a beast. Larry Williams is a beast.
FIGHTFAN: For sure. So that brings us to Joey Munoz. What do you know about, or expect from him?
Joey Guerra: I’ve heard he’s a great wrestler, great fighter, southpaw. Just a tough, tough guy. He’s got a great record and he’s a champion and I think it’ll be a good fight.
FIGHTFAN: It’s your first belt defense. Does that add any pressure?
Joey Guerra: No, to me, fighting is a job, so I just kind of look at it as how am I going to do my job best. That’s the way I see it. I’m just fighting.
FIGHTFAN: Where do you see Munoz giving you the most trouble?
Joey Guerra: I think he has great wrestling, and he’s a southpaw. I think we’ll stand and bang, go to the ground a roll around a bit and see what happens.
FIGHTFAN: Well, we have been excited to see this fight since we found out it was happening. You’re both great fighters as well as crowd pleasers so I’m looking forward to it. Anything in closing Joe?
Joey Guerra: I would like to thank Tony Basile, Vic Brabo and 303 Training Center, Dr. RJ. He helped heal me. I broke my neck a few years ago and he helped heal me up. Brian Earnst at West Colfax MMA. Octavio Mangia and Fresh Mex Mexican Food, Jony Commandari, Raz Bites, Blake Winter, Wheat Tail, Alan Romero, Ricky Wear and all my friends and family who have helped me along the way.
