Ricardo Lamas posts photos of jaw broken in three places

Ricardo Lamas not only lost to Calvin Kattar at UFC 238 over the weekend, he revealed on Tuesday that he suffered a broken jaw. Providing an update on his condition following Saturday’s fight in Chicago, Lamas said that Kattar broke his jaw in three places and backed it up with photos of the x-rays.

Lamas, a longtime contender in the UFC featherweight division, was hoping to build some momentum with a second consecutive win at UFC 238, but that didn’t happen. He was instead blasted by Kattar with a late first-round knockout.

The loss dropped Lamas’ record to 19-8 overall and was his third loss in his last four bouts. Worse, of course, is the break, which the x-rays show.

“I suffered 3 fractures in my jaw during the fight. Been in the hospital since and had surgery (Monday),” Lamas wrote on Instagram.

“Titanium plates were installed. I asked the doctor to install small laser guns in my mouth that I could activate with my tongue and shoot through my teeth, but he said that was impossible,” he continued, apparently in good spirits.

“I’d like to thank everyone who reached out with kind messages… For now, it’s quality time with my family and baby number three coming in early August, which puts in perspective what’s truly important in life.”

Lamas did not give a timeline for his recovery, and has not stated what is the next step for his career.

Conor McGregor lands on Forbes Top 100 highest paid athletes list for 2019

Former two-division UFC champion Conor McGregor has once again landed a spot amongst the top 100 highest paid athletes in 2019 according to Forbes.

The list of the top 100 highest paid athletes was released on Tuesday with McGregor coming in at No. 21 after reportedly making $47 million last year.

The breakdown of the money McGregor made comes down to $32 million in fight purses and another $15 million in endorsement deals.

While McGregor only fought once last year, his bout against Khabib Nurmagomedov at UFC 229 ended up as the highest selling pay-per-view in company history. That reportedly earned McGregor more than $30 million for that single fight when combining the $3 million in disclosed money along with bonuses paid out through pay-per-view profits.

When it comes to his endorsement deals, McGregor also inked a new contract with Reebok that reportedly pays him around $5 million a year as well as the money he made from sales of his Proper No. 1 Irish whiskey, that was released last year.

McGregor has earned a spot on the top 100 highest paid athletes list each of the past four years after he was the first mixed martial artist in history to land there in 2016.

Since that time, McGregor has watched his wealth increase including his huge payday for a boxing match against Floyd Mayweather back in 2017.

McGregor still hasn’t booked his return to action yet in 2019, although he has been teasing a fight before the end of the year.

Cowboy Cerrone provides update on grotesque UFC 238 eye injury and what’s next

Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone had an epic first round with Tony Ferguson at UFC 238 on Saturday in Chicago, but he ended up losing the fight when he was deemed medically unfit to continue.

Though Cerrone and Ferguson waged an intense battle in the first round, Ferguson took over in round two, picking Cerrone apart. Cowboy wore the damage on his face, which was bloody and swollen.

Ferguson landed a punch after the horn at the end of the second round, causing a bit of a stir amongst Cerrone fans, particularly when Cowboy couldn’t answer the bell for round three.

Cerrone survived to the end of round two, but in between rounds blew his nose, which caused his right eye to swell shut. Though fans and pundits were up in arms about Ferguson’s late punch, even Cerrone quickly admitted that the punch had nothing to do with him not being allowed to fight to the end.

UFC president Dana White, at the UFC 238 post-fight press conference, indicated that Cerrone likely had an orbital fracture, but when Cerrone provided an update on Tuesday, he shot down any speculation about any serious injuries resulting from the damage Ferguson inflicted.

“I’m in good health. Thanks for all the message and concerns,” Cerrone wrote on Instagram. “Only air was in my eye. No broken bones nor cracked or broken orbital.”

Cerrone didn’t give a timeline for his recovery, but in true Cowboy fashion, was already calling for his next fight, which he’d happily take mulligan with Ferguson.

“Sitting and waiting for the rematch or next fight.”
