UNIVERSAL FIGHT ALLIANCE 9 – Fight Club 2 – Play by Play

Fight 1- Mike Eucker vs. Daniel Mendoza – 155

Round 1- Mendoza landed am immediate right drawing Eucker into a slugfest. Eucker fired back with punches and knees, Mendoza kept the pressure on. Eucker then slipped after throwing a kick giving Mendoza the opportunity to pounce. Eucker, too gassed from the all-out pace of the fight to throw him off, succumbed to strikes. Time 1:27.

Fight 2- Michael Bergman vs. Vince Lontine -155

Round 1- Bergman charged across the cage where Lontine had a right hand waiting for him. Bergman absorbed the punch with his jaw and dropped. Lontine took top position and went to work with ground and pound until Bergman tapped. Time: 46 seconds.

Fight 3- Beau Wilson vs. Jackson McCue – 175

Round 1- The fighters touched gloves and McCue immediately landed a quick, forceful one-two. Wilson clinched. McCue reached under his neck, locked in a guillotine, lifted up with everything he had and tapped Wilson at 25 seconds.

 Fight 4- Angel Smith vs. Aaron Harbour – 150

Round 1- Smith forced an immediate clinch and Harbour lifted him double leg style and slammed him. He worked his way into side control and Smith put on a guillotine which he managed to stand up with and tighten before Harbour escaped with a trip takedown. Smith secured the Guillotine once again. This time, he tightened it further as Harbour tripped him and, from his back, tapped Harbour. Time: 1:55.

Fight 5- Thomas Sandau vs. Eric Maestas – 145

Round 1- Sandau set up his jab, then then missed with a head kick leaving Maestas an opening for a takedown. Maestas took position in Sandau’s mount and began to work ground and pound until Sandau rolled him and took his back. The fight was paused to warn Sandau for an unintentional strike to the back of Maestas’ head. Sandau controlled a scramble when action resumed and administered a sudden Peruvian neck tie to tap Maestas abruptly at 2:27.

Fight 6- Rory O’Farrell vs. Leonard Ybarra -205 – Light Heavyweight Title

Round 1- Ybarra landed a quick right hand and O’Farrell took an available double leg takedown.  He worked to free himself from a body lock and a smothering arm trap defense by Ybarra. O’Farrell finally managed to slip into side control where he unloaded heavy knees to the body of Ybarra. From there he was able to secure a mounted crucifix and drop several right hands on Ybarra before taking his left arm and applying a kimora and making him tap. Time: 2:59.

Fight 7- Anthony Peairs vs. Sasha Brown – 155

Round 1- The fighters traded kicks and gauged distance. Peairs moved in and scored a trip takedown. He fought to neutralize a Brown body lock and gained side control briefly. Brown’s scrambling defense kept Peairs from doing damage.

Round 2- Peairs missed with a head kick and fell to the mat. Brown landed a kick while Peairs was down prompting a point deduction from the referee. As action resumed, Brown landed a head kick and Peairs affected a single leg takedown. Again, Brown’s ground defense again kept him from taking significant damage until Peairs passed guard and landed some strikes from the full-mount.

Round 3- Brown’s corner warned him that he was behind in the fight due to the point deduction taken in round 2 and instructed him to use his kicks. Peairs timed a kick and took Brown to the ground. The referee stood the fighters to warn for a minor infraction and Peairs managed yet another takedown. Peairs fought off numerous up kicks to keep Brown on his back, controlling the ground action up until the final bell. Judges: 30-26, 30-26, 30-26 – Peairs.

Fight 8- Anthony Aguirre vs. Joey Munoz – 145 – Featherweight Title

Round 1- In an exchange, Aguirre caught Munoz with a powerful uppercut knocking him backward into the cage. With Munoz shook, Aguirre followed with power shots from every angle. Munoz tried a desperate takedown but Aguirre stuffed it. Munoz struck back with a big left and several uppercuts then pinned Aguirre against the cage. He worked for a takedown for several seconds but Aguirre’s leverage was good. Finally Munoz got a big slam and tried to capitalize before the bell.

Round 2- Munoz established a safe distance then lunged in catching Aguirre with a combination and following with uppercuts. Both fighters landed several more accurate, crisp strikes. Munoz got the better of the last one punctuating it with another head snapping uppercut. The pace was non-stop. Munoz landed knees as Aguirre retaliated.

Round 3- Aguirre got off a right left right left which hurt Munoz. Munoz collected himself, took Aguirre down and went to work with ground and pound. Though the pace had been fast, Munoz worked hard the rest of the round as Aguirre defended and fought back but was unable to match Munoz’ intensity. Judges: 29-28, 29-28, 29-28 – Munoz.

Fight 9- Nick Laney vs. Steven Lee – 170

Round 1- Lee went immediately for a takedown. Laney defended with leverage. Lee reached down, grabbed Laney’s ankle, and pulled it out from under him bringing him to the mat but landing in Laney’s guillotine. As he struggled to free his head, Laney rolled him and finished the fight with a crucifix at 29 seconds.
