Team Wildman member Chino Montoya climbs in the cage Friday, and he is ready…
FF: So Chino, for those that don’t know you, can you tell us a little about you and your record?
CM: My record is 3-2 right now. I won my last fight, that was in September against Hornowski from Fight Factory. The fight before that was in April against Cruz Chacon. I lost a split decision. My grandma passed away a week before that. I was a hard time. Thomas was going to pull me out of the fight. My other loss was against Chris Cope from The Ultimate Fighter.
FF: Okay yeah…
CM: I fought him and he caught me with a switch kick at the end of the fight. He just waited for me…he was more patient that I was and I got comfortable and got caught with a switch kick. Those are my losses. I’m coming from California, after that I was in New Mexico. I fight for Thomas Denny/Team Wildman, and we train out of Premier MMA Fitness.
FF: Tough camp man…So you had a change of opponents, you were scheduled to face Fino Soltero, now you’re looking at Ed Banks. Does that change affect you at all?
CM: It actually doesn’t, because I’m going out with the same plan. I’m fighting in the fight to win a month after that, so Im going to try an take the least damage possible and see what happens.
FF: You opponent Ed Banks, can you tell us what you know about him and any game plan?
CM: I really don’t know too much about him. I saw his fight in January against Lumumba and Lumumba caught him in a head and arm choke. I know that he caught Joe Trujillo with a flying knee five seconds into the fight. I don’t know too much about him, but I know whatever comes, I’ll be prepared. As long as I stay focused and stick to the plan…My team and my coach prepares us for anything coming. We’re ready.
FF: tell us about your weight cut…how is that going for you?
CM: Oh man…pretty rough. I feel good and I feel strong, but eating all your vitamins and minerals, you start feeling a little queasy. You try to get rid of all the sodium and potassium and after five days of not eating normal and getting what you need because of the weight cut you feel kind of off, but I’ll be back to normal right after the cut.
FF: One more day, right?
CM: Yeah, tomorrow we weigh in, and it’s going to be at Blondie’s. Right after that, I’ll start drinking and eating what I need and I’ll be back to normal.
FF: Training went well I take it?
CM: Yeah, training went real good. I’m in shape, my cardio is good, I’m feeling strong, so it’s just a matter of going out there and executing my game plan.
FF: You haven’t fought in a while, do you think that lay off will affect you at all?
CM: You know they say it does, but I’m not focused on that. I’ve been training every day. Its not like I have been taking any breaks, I train with Brian, and everybody, we’re always fighting. I’m at the gym every day. We’ll see, I’m prepared no matter what. There’s no excuses.
FF: Awesome man, well in closing is there anybody you would like to thank?
CM: I would like to thank Team Wildman, and of especially God. He strengthens me every day, and he plays the biggest role in our team. Without him we wouldn’t have a Team Wildman in my opinion.
FF: Anything you would like to say to Ed?
CM: Let’s give em a good show and let the best man win. There’s going to be a fight and I’m ready, Bring it.
