Another of the fighters on Fridays Rocky Mountain Bad Boyz card is Ashley Villasana. I believe this fight is one NOT to be missed.
FF: Hi Ashley, for those that don’t know about you, let’s start off with your record?
AV: My record is 1-0 right now.
FF: Okay, second fight and you’re up against Sherrie Pasko out of Zingano’s Gym. What do you know about her?
AV: Honestly, I don’t know anything about her. I know more about the gym. I heard it’s more of a Jiu Jitsu gym, all ground work. That’s pretty much all I know about her and the gym she trains out of.
FF: She’s making her debut, does that affect you at all?
AV: No, not at all. First fights are always the most fun fights. They’re always the most exciting fights. It’s actually an honor to be able to fight her. Knowing that this is going to be her first fight. My second, her first, I’m really excited for it.
FF: So going up against someone who is making their debut, someone you know nothing about, does that make it harder to game plan for the fight?
AV: Honestly…no, it doesn’t. The way I train, I train for everything. Jiu Jitsu, stand up game, everything. Anything she brings to me I’m confident knowing that I can handle it. If she wants o take it to the ground, we can go to the ground. If she wants to stand up and brawl, we can brawl. So it doesn’t. It makes me more nervous knowing this is her first fight and she could come out and be amazing. I’m not worried about it at all. Like I said, I train every day for everything, so I’m ready for it.
FF: Ashley, I know you’re young, can you tell me a little about your history in the sport, and where you pan to take it?
AV: Okay…my dad, my uncle, my brothers have all been fighters. My dad and my uncle were kick boxers and my brothers were boxing. So I grew up living the lifestyle of a fighter and loving the sport. I started off boxing when I was younger, and then when I was about sixteen I jumped into training MMA and boxing at the same time. So I would train MMA and then right after that class go to my boxing class. So I grew up living the fighting lifestyle. I want to get into it more. I want to get more involved, take it as high as I can go. Go pro, fight for the title, be the champ. I want to go big with this sport, I love this sport! If I could train every day all day, I would, that’s how much passion I have for this sport. I love it!
FF: That’s awesome…So I saw your first fight and you pretty much picked your opponent apart on the feet. Is that your preference to stand? I know you mentioned that you started out boxing…so I’m curious, is the preference standing or are you going to be equally comfortable on the ground?
AV: Yeah, I prefer the stand up game. I feel it’s more of an exciting fight that way. From my own perspective; I don’t try to go out there and show off or try to win people over by fighting, I go out there because I LOVE to fight. I love throwing punches, I love throwing kicks. So it’s not that I’m better at the stand up game, than the ground game, it’s because I feel more excited, I feel a lot more passionate about standing up and both of us just going at it brawling.
FF: This is going to be such an exciting fight…
AV: It is.
FF: Thanks for taking the time to talk to me Ashley. Is there anyone you would like to thank or is there anything you would like to say to Sherrie?
AV: I do. I want to thank my mom and my family. They support me 110%. Some families wont accept this, the fighting. They think its crazy, but my mom, dad and family all support me 110%. They’ll all be at my fight, in the VIP section and will probably be the loudest there. So I want to thank them, if it wasn’t for them, I wouldn’t be here. I also want to thank my trainers Mike Silva, Keith, Jeff…I want to thank all of them. For Sherrie Pasko, I want to tell her good luck, I hope she enjoys the sport as much as I do. I respect anybody who comes out and fights…It takes a lot for someone to be a fighter, and I respect her for wanting to be a fighter too, so I want to tell her good luck.
